Power Rangers

arts Maturity 5-7 Next article →

Power Rangers is a famous group of heroes from a media franchise. It began with the show Mighty Morphin Power Rangers on August 28, 1993. This show became a huge hit with viewers and toy fans. It helped the series become a part of pop culture. The show uses footage from a Japanese series called Super Sentai. American makers add their own stories and characters to the action.

Each team is made of young people trained by a mentor. They can morph into superheroes by wearing special suits. These suits are tight and made of spandex. They also wear helmets with dark visors to hide their faces. Most Rangers have extra strength, speed, or agility. Some even have psychic powers like invisibility or moving very fast.

When a fight gets too big, the Rangers use Zords. Zords are huge machines that the heroes pilot. These giant robots help them fight massive enemies. Each Ranger also has a unique weapon for fighting on the ground. Most teams have three to five members, but more can join later. Rangers must follow rules like keeping their identities a secret. They also cannot use their powers for personal gain.

Haim Saban helped bring this idea to America. He saw a Japanese show called Bioman on TV in 1985. He wanted to make an American version of that concept. The first successful show, Mighty Morphin, used footage from a show called Zyuranger. The name "Power Rangers" was chosen to sound like their transformation sequences. Even the name "Zord" was a special idea for the giant robots.

The franchise has lasted for 30 seasons from 1993 to 2023. It has grown into many things like movies and video games. By 2001, people had spent over $6 billion on Power Rangers toys. The toy company Bandai worked with the brand for many years. Later, the American company Hasbro bought the franchise in 2018. Today, you can even find new seasons on Netflix.
