Polyculture is a way of farming. It means growing many types of crops in one place at the same time.

This is different from monoculture. Monoculture is when a farmer grows only one crop in a field.

Many cultures use polyculture. In North and Central America, people grow the Three Sisters. These are maize, beans, and squash. The maize gives beans a place to climb. The beans add nitrogen to the soil. The squash grows on the ground to stop weeds.

In Asia, farmers use rice-fish systems. They grow rice and fish together in the same water. Some also add ducks to the rice paddies.

This can provide extra food like fish or ducks.

Polyculture helps the earth. It makes the soil better by adding air and water. It also helps stop pests and diseases. Many plants together make it hard for pests to find their food.
