In old ways, farmers use machines to turn the soil. This is called tillage. Tillage can cause soil erosion. This is when wind or water carries dirt away. No-till farming stops this. It keeps the soil in place. It also helps the ground hold more water. This helps more life live in the soil.

There are different ways to do this. In direct seeding, farmers plant seeds through old plant bits. In surface seeding, seeds are left on top of the soil.

Some farmers use cover crops. These are plants that act like a blanket. They help stop weeds from growing.

No-till farming can help farmers save money. They use less fuel and need fewer machines. In South America, many countries use it. In Paraguay, farm income went up by 77 percent. It can be hard to learn at first. Farmers may need to buy new tools. They must also watch for weeds more closely. It can take many years to see the full profit.
