These twin towers have 88 floors each. They were the tallest buildings in the world from 1996 to 2004. Today, they remain the tallest twin skyscrapers on Earth. They are a major landmark for the whole city. Many people can see them from far away.

The design of the towers uses special shapes. The architect César Pelli wanted to create a modern icon. The building shapes come from Islamic art. This reflects the Muslim religion of Malaysia. The floor plan uses a shape called a Rub el Hizb.

This is a star pattern. They also added circular sections to the design. These circles help make more room for offices. The outside is made of steel and glass.

Building these towers was a huge job. Planning began on January 1, 1992. Workers had to test how wind would hit the design. Construction started on March 1, 1993, at an old race track. Every night, they moved 500 truckloads of earth. The ground was tricky to work with. One side was decayed limestone and the other was soft rock.

Engineers moved the site so the towers sat on soft rock.

The towers sit on very deep foundations. They used 104 concrete piles to stay steady. Each tower had a massive concrete raft foundation. Pouring the concrete for one raft took 54 hours. This set a world record for the largest concrete pour. Two different teams built the two towers. A Japanese team built Tower 1. A South Korean team built Tower 2. One team had to stop when a batch of concrete failed a test. They even demolished one floor to stay safe.

A special skybridge connects the two buildings. It sits on the 41st and 42nd floors. This is the highest two-story bridge in the world. It helps people move between towers during high winds. It also helps people escape during a fire. At the bottom, there is a large mall called Suria KLCC. It has about 300 stores for people to visit. There is also a park with a fountain and a playground.
