In ancient Susa, makers crafted ceramic vessels by hand. They might have used a slow wheel to help. Most of the work was done freehand with paint. They drew lines and bands around the pots.

Other makers used bronze to create small, light objects. They used a method called openwork to make designs. These items were easy to carry for people on the move. They made things like horse gear and small cups.

This long history began thousands of years ago.

Near Susa, people were making painted pottery 6000 years ago. They even built large temples on high platforms. Later, the Achaemenid Empire ruled from 550 BC to 330 BC. These rulers helped create a unique Persian style. This style combined ideas from many different places.

Many famous pieces show the power of kings.

The Achaemenid kings built grand palaces at Persepolis. They used massive stone carvings and gold work.

At Naqsh-e Rostam, four huge tombs sit high in cliffs. One is the tomb of Darius I the Great.

The Behistun relief was made for Darius the Great. It has writing in three different languages. This helped people understand ancient scripts much later.

Persian art connects to many things we see today.
