He is often called the father of modern Persian poetry. He changed the way people used words to express their feelings. Before him, poetry followed very strict and old rules. These rules had stayed the same for a thousand years. Nima wanted to find a way to write more freely. He created a new style called She'r-e Nima'i, or Nima poetry. This new way of writing helped poets share deep thoughts. It allowed them to speak about the real world around them.

Nima's new style worked by breaking old patterns. In the past, every line in a poem had a fixed length. This is called a meter. Nima decided that the length of a line should change. He believed the line should follow the depth of the thought. He also used flexible rhyme instead of mandatory patterns. This allowed for a free flow of ideas and concepts. He used symbols to build a strong meaning in his work. He also used the natural speech of common people. This made his poetry feel much more real to everyone.

Nima grew up in a village called Yush in Mazandaran.

He was the eldest son of a man named Ibrahim Nuri. As a young boy, Nima helped his father on the farm. He spent time taking care of the cattle. He also visited many camps with local shepherds. He listened to their simple and entertaining stories. These stories about village life stayed in his memory. They helped shape the poet he would eventually become. His early life in the countryside was very important.

Nima's journey as a poet had many important moments. He first gained attention in 1921 with a long poem. This poem was called The Tale of the Pale-Colored One. It was published in a newspaper called The Twentieth Century. Some traditional poets did not like his new ideas. They mocked him for leaving the old ways behind. In 1922, he published a poem called "O Night." Later, his famous works appeared in the journal Musiqi. These poems, like "The Phoenix," showed his mature style. He lived for sixty-four years before he passed away.

Nima's influence is still felt by many people today. His ideas spread far beyond the borders of Iran. For example, the poet Wāsef Bakhtari was inspired by him. In Afghanistan, his style helped shape modern literature and culture. Many famous Iranian poets also followed his lead. These include poets like Forough Farrokhzad and Ahmad Shamlou. They used his ideas about free verse and symbols. Nima Yooshij changed the world of Persian literature forever. He showed that poetry could always find new paths.
