He is now seen as a poetic icon in his home country. His writing was special because it used many different styles. Some of his poems were impressionistic, which means they captured feelings and moods. Others were expressionist or even dadaist, which used more wild and unusual ideas. He also used a style called constructivism to create bold, new art. This style was very different from the quiet poems of the past. He wanted his words to be loud and full of life.

Kosovel's way of writing changed a lot over time. In his early years, he wrote about his family and the Karst landscape. He loved the scenery of his home region very much. Later, he moved toward a style called "kons." This was short for "konstrukcije," which means constructions. These poems did not follow normal rules of grammar or logic. Instead, he used mathematical symbols, equations, and even colors on the page. He also used paper collages to make his work look like art. This made his poetry feel very modern and experimental.

Kosovel's life was shaped by many big events in history. He was born in 1904 in Sežana. When he was twelve, a large war called the First World War began nearby. The Battles of the Isonzo took place near his home. He saw many wounded soldiers during this difficult time. Because of the war, he and his sister moved to Ljubljana in 1916. Later, a treaty called the Treaty of Rapallo changed his home land.

Italy took over the Karst region and its people. The new leaders did not allow the use of the Slovene language. This made Kosovel feel very sad and angry about his home.

He was an incredibly busy writer during his short life. Kosovel produced an impressive body of work with over 1,000 drafts. Among these drafts, he wrote about 500 complete poems. The year 1925 was his most productive time. During this year, he also worked as an editor for magazines. He edited a magazine called Lepa Vida and another called Mladina. He had big plans to use these papers to help artists. Even though he died young, his work was huge. He died in 1926 at the age of 22. He died from a sickness called meningitis.

Many people discovered his poems long after he passed away. Most of his writing was not published until forty years later. In 1946, Anton Ocvirk published a book of Kosovel's collected works. Later, in 1967, a collection called Integrali '26 was finally released. This helped the public see his amazing constructivist poems. Today, readers can find his work in many different languages. Some of his poems have even been translated into English. People still study his poems to understand his unique voice and his love for his land.
