She was a very important figure in modern Persian literature. People often call her an iconoclast, which means someone who challenges old rules. Her work was very new and different for her time. She used her voice to talk about being a woman and being a person. Many people still look to her as a leader in art. Her poems and films helped change how people express themselves in Iran.

Farrokhzad's work often focused on the human experience. She believed that art should be about the inner self. In a radio interview, she explained her view on gender. She said that a woman might notice certain issues more naturally. However, she felt that artists should not let gender limit them. She wanted her poems to reach a level where they stand alone. To her, the most important thing was the work a human produces. This idea helped her create very powerful and honest poetry.

Her life began in Tehran on December 29, 1934. She was the fourth of seven children in her family. Her father, Colonel Mohammad Bagher Farrokhzad, was a military officer.
