He is a very important figure in history. In Iran, people call him the founder of New Persian poetry. In Tajikistan, he is known as the father of Tajik literature. He lived during the Samanid Empire, which lasted from 819 to 999. Rudaki helped start a new era for Persian writing. His work helped the New Persian language grow and flourish. He was a master of words and music.

Rudaki had many different talents that he practiced from a young age. By the time he was eight, he had already memorized the Qur'an. He also learned to play the chang, which is a stringed instrument. A musician named Abu'l-Abak Bakhtiar taught him how to play it. Rudaki was not just a writer of poems. He was also a skilled singer and a talented musician. He used his fine voice to share his many verses. These skills helped him become a popular figure in his time.

Most of Rudaki's life was spent working at the Samanid court. This was a very important part of his career. He likely worked for the ruler Ahmad Samani. Later, he worked under the ruler Nasr II. A man named Abu'l-Fadl al-Bal'ami was his main supporter. Bal'ami was a vizier, which is a high-ranking official. Bal'ami helped the Persian literature of the 10th century bloom. He even called Rudaki the best poet in the land.

Rudaki wrote a huge number of poems during his life. Some historians say he wrote more than 180,000 verses. Sadly, most of these poems have been lost to time. One of his most famous works was based on the Kalila wa-Dimna. These are fables, or stories, that came from India. Because Rudaki was blind, people read the stories out loud to him. Then, he turned those stories into beautiful poetry. He also wrote a long poem called a qasida for a governor named Abu Ja'far. This poem earned him 10,000 dinars as a reward.

Even though he lived long ago, people still remember Rudaki today.

His life was not always easy, and he died in poverty. However, his legacy stayed strong for many hundreds of years. In 1958, people held a big meeting to celebrate his 1100th birthday. During this time, his burial place in Panjrud was discovered. An archaeologist named Mikhail Gerasimov even studied his remains. He used them to make a sculpture of Rudaki's face. Rudaki remains a symbol of identity for many people today.
