Because of all this fishing, the city also helps fix boats. The port complex can help repair many large vessels. This work keeps the fishing industry moving.

Long ago, the land looked very different. A legend says a narrow strip of land once stretched along the shore. Eventually, the sea ate away at the land. This created an opening that let water flow through. People called this a "butas," which means a breach or a piercing.

This opening became the Navotas River. Over time, the name of the place changed from Nabotas to Navotas. The city was once part of the province of Rizal.

Navotas has a long history of changing its status. It was first established as a town on February 16, 1859. At that time, it was a new parish under Friar Matías Navoa. For a while, it was part of Malabon. On January 16, 1906, it finally became its own independent municipality.

Later, in 1975, it joined the National Capital Region. On June 24, 2007, it officially became a highly urbanized city. This happened after a vote was held by the people.

Today, many people call Navotas home. The 2024 census says 252,878 people live there. Most of these people are young and ready to work. The city is divided into 18 small areas called barangays. Some areas, like San Jose, are named after patron saints.
