He also liked to paint women and daily village life. He was inspired by the beautiful murals found in the Ajanta Caves. Sometimes he used a method called linocut to make prints. For example, he made a black and white print in 1930. This print showed Mahatma Gandhi walking with a staff. This image became a very famous symbol for a non-violence movement.

His journey as an artist began a long time ago. He was born on December 3, 1882, in Bihar. His family originally came from the West Bengal area. His mother, Khetramoni Devi, made toys and dolls for him. These toys helped him learn how to model shapes. When he was fifteen, he moved to Calcutta for school. He wanted to study art very much. Even though his family was unsure at first, he eventually studied at the Calcutta School of Art.

Bose held many important roles throughout his life. In 1921, he became the principal of Kala Bhavan at Santiniketan. This was a college of arts at an international university. He also worked on very special projects for the country. He helped decorate the original manuscript of the Constitution of India. He worked on this with his student, Rammanohar. Jawaharlal Nehru also asked him to sketch emblems for India's top awards. These include the Bharat Ratna and the Padma Shri.

Today, we can still see the huge impact of his work. The National Gallery of Modern Art in Delhi holds 7,000 of his pieces.

He taught many famous students who became great artists too. He received many honors, such as the Padma Vibhushan in 1954. He was also the first Fellow of the Lalit Kala Akademi. His life shows how art can connect people to their history and their country. He passed away in 1966, but his art lives on.
