Most of the books are Gnostic writings. Gnostic writings are texts about special religious ideas. There are 52 of these writings in the collection. Some books are also from a group called the Corpus Hermeticum. One book is even a part of a work by Plato. One of the most famous books is the Gospel of Thomas. It is a collection of sayings from Jesus. This is the only complete copy of that book we have. Some people think the books were hidden to keep them safe. Others think they were buried with a wealthy person. Today, these old books are kept in a museum in Cairo. They help us learn how people thought a long time ago.
