Zosimos wrote the oldest books on alchemy. He called them "Cheirokmeta," which means "things made by hand." Many of his books were written in Greek. Later, people translated them into Arabic and Syriac. This helped his ideas spread to new places.

Zosimos wrote many books for his student, Theosebeia.

Their books often use a dialogue. This is a way of writing where two people talk. In his "Book of Pictures," Zosimos and Theosebeia talk back and forth. He used images to help her understand his lessons. He believed these pictures showed how a person's mind could change. He also used symbols to explain his work. For example, he used symbols for different metals. To Zosimos, changing metal was like a way to clean the soul. He thought the work of alchemy and the work of the spirit were linked.
