Richard E. Byrd found the mountain in 1934. He saw it from an airplane. He named it for Mabelle E. Sidley. The mountain is in a very remote place. This means it is far away from people. Because of this, not many people know it. Bill Atkinson was the first person to climb it. He did this in 1990. He was from New Zealand. He was helping a group of scientists.
