Adelaide Island is a large island in Antarctica.

It sits near the Antarctic Peninsula. Much of the island is covered in ice. Most of the land is very cold and white.

Many mountains rise from the island. Mount Bodys is the furthest mountain to the east. It rises over 1,220 meters high. The western part of the island has a large ice field. We call this the Fuchs Ice Piedmont.

People have visited this island for a long time. A British explorer named John Biscoe found it in 1832. He named it after Queen Adelaide. Today, people go there to study science. There is a place called Rothera Research Station.

It is a busy place for research.

There is also an old base on the island. This base was once used by the British. Later, it was given to Chile. Now, the ground there is not very stable. This makes it hard for planes to land. But the Chilean Navy still visits the station in summer. They check to make sure it is kept well.
