Mount Vinson is the highest peak in Antarctica. It is 4,892 meters tall. The mountain has a big, flat top. We call this a plateau. The mountain is made of old rocks. These rocks include sandstones and argillites. Some of these rocks have fossils in them.

The weather is very cold. In the summer, the sun stays up for 24 hours. High winds and snow can happen at any time. Snow falls on the mountain and turns into ice. This ice forms glaciers. These glaciers flow down the valleys.

Many people try to climb Mount Vinson. It is one of the Seven Summits. This means it is one of the highest peaks on each continent. An American team first climbed it in 1966.
