People say she worked for the Takeda clan. This makes her a very exciting figure in Japanese tales.

One writer shared a special story about how she worked. His name was Shisei Inagaki. He wrote a book in 1971 called Investigation of Japanese History. He said Chiyome had a village of miko. Miko are shrine maidens who work at shrines. Inagaki claimed a leader named Shingen gave her permission to start this village. He said these miko became spies for the clan.

However, many modern historians do not think Chiyome was a real person. A teacher named Katsuya Yoshimaru studies history. He says there is no proof she actually lived. He looked at the claims made by Inagaki. He found that no historical papers describe the battle mentioned in the book. He also said the written permission from Shingen does not exist.

Most experts think these old papers might be fake.

Even if she was not real, her name is very popular. Her name became famous after a magazine called History Reader wrote about her in 1991. The article called her an upper ninja. This is a special rank that Yoshimaru says did not exist in real history.
