It is part of a group called the Southern Cross. You can see this shape on many flags. It is on the flags of Australia and Brazil.

Mimosa is a triple star system. This means it is made of three stars. These stars stay together in one group. One star is a blue giant. A giant is a very big star. This star is 15 times as heavy as our Sun. It is also much wider than our Sun. It is very hot. This heat makes the star look blue-white.

This big star is changing. It used up the fuel in its core. Because of this, it might explode one day. This kind of huge explosion is called a supernova. This might happen in 6 million years.

The star also has a strong stellar wind. This is a stream of gas that flows out. The wind moves very fast. It lets out a lot of mass every year. The star is between 8 and 11 million years old.
