This star is part of a large group. It may have as many as eight stars in its system.

Tiansi is a Be star. This means it shows special lines of light from hydrogen. The star spins very fast. This spin makes the middle of the star bulge out. This causes the star to throw out gas. The gas forms a hot disk around the star. This is called a decretion disk.

The star is very big and heavy. It has 17 times the mass of our Sun. It is also very bright. It gives off as much power as 19,000 Suns. The star glows with a blue-white color. It is a variable star. This means its brightness changes over time. In the late 1930s, it became very bright. It even outshone other nearby stars. An astronaut once gave it the nickname Navi. He used this name to help him find his way in space.
