Two of the stars orbit each other. We call them Aa and Ab. They go around each other every 357 days. This is almost like one year on Earth. These stars are much bigger than our Sun. Aa is about 12 times as massive as the Sun. Ab is about 10 times as massive.

One star, Aa, is a variable star. This means its brightness changes a little bit. It does this through pulsations. Pulsations are tiny pulses or shakes in the star. These shakes make the star look brighter or dimmer.

People use these stars to find their way. They are called the Pointers. They point toward the Southern Cross. This helps sailors find south. Many people have different names for these stars. The Boorong people call them Bermbermgle. The Mursi people call the star Waar.
