Born in the village of Villava, Spain, he became a legend of the sport. He is most famous for winning the Tour de France five times in a row from 1991 to 1995. This was a huge achievement that no other rider has done since. He also won the Giro d'Italia, a major race in Italy, twice. Because of his large physical size and great strength, fans gave him the nickname "Miguelón" or "Big Mig."

Induráin had a very specific way of winning his big races. He was a master of the time trial, which is a race where riders compete against the clock. He would use these races to build a large lead over his rivals. Once he was ahead, he would ride defensively in the mountain stages. He would watch his competitors closely to make sure they did not pass him. This strategy allowed him to control the race and protect his lead. He even wore the leader's yellow jersey for 60 days during his career.

His journey began long before he became a professional star. When he was ten, he received a green secondhand Olmo bicycle for his birthday. Sadly, the bike was stolen when he was eleven years old. He had to work in the fields with his father to pay for a new one. He tried many sports like football and basketball before choosing cycling. By the age of 18, he was already the youngest winner of the Spanish amateur national road championship. He turned professional on September 4, 1984, and soon began winning major races.

Even though he was a champion, Induráin faced many hard moments. In 1996, he tried to win a sixth Tour de France but struggled with illness. He decided to retire from racing on January 1, 1997. He told the news that he felt it was the right time to stop. His fame was so great that 2,000 children in his hometown took up cycling because of him. He left the sport as a respected leader who showed great strength and intelligence.
