People use these tools to apply cosmetics to their skin. Using the right brush helps colors blend together perfectly. Most brushes have a handle made of wood or plastic. The other end has bristles for spreading the makeup.

There are many different shapes and sizes to choose from. Some tips are round, straight, or even tapered. Some are chiseled or angular to reach specific spots.

Different brushes do very different jobs on the face.

A large fan brush can dust off extra powder. It can also apply highlighter to the high points of the face. A Kabuki brush has very dense bristles for full coverage. If you want to do eyes, you might use a flat shader brush. This is sometimes called a cat's tongue brush. A tiny pencil brush helps add color to very small areas. A pointed eyeliner brush helps create sharp, winged lines.

Brushes are made using two main types of materials.

Synthetic bristles are made from plastic or nylon fibers. These are very common in many stores. They work great with liquid or cream products. These brushes do not soak up much product. They also tend to last a long time. Synthetic brushes are also known as being cruelty-free. They are a very popular choice for many people.

Natural bristles come from animal hair.

These bristles can be dark in color. They are often used for powder products. This is because the hair is porous. Porous means it has tiny holes that pick up pigment. This helps spread powder very evenly on the skin. Some natural hairs come from goats or squirrels. Other types come from badgers, ponies, or weasels. Some even come from Kolinsky sable.

Choosing a brush depends on the goal of the artist.

If you want a seamless effect, use a fluffy blending brush. Natural fibers work best for this task. If you need to outline lips, use a lip liner brush. For eyebrows, a duo brush can line and fill. You can even use a lash comb to fix messy lashes. Every tool has a special way it works. The right brush makes the final look beautiful.
