People use different styles of the language. Some people use a style for everyday talk. Others use a formal style to show respect. There is also a style for writing books. Some books are for holy teachings.

These are called Pechas.

Lhasa Tibetan has many unique parts. The language uses tones. This means the pitch of a sound can change a word's meaning. It also has special ways to show how someone knows a fact. This is called evidentiality. People use different words to show if they saw something or just heard about it.

When people count, they use a base-10 system. They use special words for very large numbers. For example, they have a word for one million. They also have words for one billion. The written words use a script from India. This script helps keep the language's history alive.
