About 48,000,000 people speak it. Most live in the Jiangxi province. They also live in parts of Hunan, Hubei, Anhui, and Fujian. Many speakers live near the Gan River and Poyang Lake.

Gan has a long history. Long ago, many people moved to this area. This helped the Gan language grow and spread. Today, Gan is different from Mandarin. It is more like the Xiang language. It also shares some sounds with Hakka.

Speaking Gan can feel very special. It uses old words from ancient China. For example, speakers say "yi shang" for clothes. In Mandarin, people say "yi fu." Gan also uses small sounds to show feelings. These sounds can make a sentence feel stronger.

Some people worry about the future of Gan. Many young people now learn Mandarin instead. However, many people want to protect Gan. Now, you can hear Gan on TV and news shows.
