Most Min speakers live in China. They live in Fujian Province. They also live in Taiwan. Many people in Southeast Asia speak Min too. This includes people in Singapore and Malaysia.

Min is a very old way of speaking. It kept some sounds from Old Chinese. These sounds are gone in other Chinese languages. This makes Min very special to study.

There are many different types of Min. Some are spoken near the coast. These are the most common. One famous type is called Hokkien. Many people call it Taiwanese in Taiwan.

Other types are spoken in the mountains. These are called inland varieties. They have fewer speakers. They use different words for things. For example, some Min words for "house" or "mouth" are different from other Chinese ways.

Min languages are not all the same. A person speaking one type might not understand another. This shows how diverse and rich these languages are.
