One larch grows even further north than any other tree. It lives near the polar ice. Larches are very common. They are the most abundant genus of trees on Earth.

Their wood is tough and lasts a long time. People use the wood for many jobs. They use it to build boats and fences. It is also used for garden furniture and decking. Some parts of the tree give us useful things. We can get oils and rosin from them. Rosin is used for violin bows. The wood can even be used as fuel for power plants.
