These trees live for a very long time. One tree in North Carolina is at least 2,624 years old. That makes it the oldest tree in eastern North America. Another famous tree was called "The Senator." It was in Florida and was about 3,500 years old.

The wood of this tree is special. It is rot-resistant. This means the wood does not decay easily in water. People use it to make doors, floors, and fences.

The tree makes small cones. These cones hold many seeds. In the fall, the cones fall to the ground or into water. This helps the seeds spread to new places. Squirrels also help by eating the seeds.
