It grows in many parts of Canada and the United States. This tree loves cool climates. It can even survive in very cold snow. It is one of the strongest trees in the cold.

Balsam firs have dark green needles. These needles are flat and thin. They grow in rows along the branches. The tree also has sticky resin, which is a thick sap. This sap can form blisters on the bark. If a blister breaks, it may spray out.

Many people use this tree as a Christmas tree. It has a nice shape and a strong smell. It is very fragrant, which means it has a sweet scent.
