Small cones grow on the branches. These cones hold many seeds. A single cone can have 32 to 130 seeds.

Each seed has a tiny, tan wing. This wing helps the seed fly in the wind.

In late summer, the cones open up. The wind carries the seeds away from the tree. Most seeds fall near the parent tree. Some seeds can fly more than 300 meters away. The roots of the tree change based on the soil. They can grow deep or spread out like a plate. This helps the tree find water and food.
