Some trees live for a long time. They can live for over 400 years.

Its leaves are long and blue-green. We call these leaves needles. These needles grow in bundles of five. The tree also has seed cones. These cones are long and slender. The seeds have small wings. The wind helps carry the seeds to new places.

Many animals use the tree. Squirrels and birds find food here. They eat the seeds and the cones.

The tree can also face hard times. A fungus called blister rust can harm it. This fungus lives on other plants like gooseberries. People once removed those plants to help the trees. Now, most white pines are safe from this rust.
