Perch have long, round bodies. This shape helps them swim fast. They have two fins on their back. One fin has sharp spines. Perch use gills to breathe. Gills take oxygen from the water. They also have a swim bladder. This is a part that helps them float. Perch are carnivores. This means they eat other things like small fish and bugs. They like to live near plants and debris. In the spring, they hide their eggs in plants. This keeps the eggs safe from animals that might eat them.
