Black Drin

geography Maturity 7-9 Next article →

The Black Drin is a long river. It flows through two countries. These are North Macedonia and Albania. The river starts at Lake Ohrid. It flows out of the lake in a place called Struga. The water travels through North Macedonia first. Then the river crosses the border into Albania. It flows west of a place named Debar. This river drains the eastern border of Albania. The Black Drin meets the White Drin in Kukës. This makes a new, big river called the Drin. The Drin flows into the Adriatic Sea. Many things grow near this water. People grow maize and barley in this part of Albania. Some people also work in silviculture. This is the way people grow and use trees. You might even see a special fish here. It is called the Ohrid trout. This fish is a type of salmon. The river has an ancient name. It comes from very old words that mean to flow.
