Sprats eat tiny creatures called zooplankton. This is their main food. In the winter, they eat a type of tiny animal called Pseudocalanus. Sprats are also part of a food web. This is a way that living things depend on each other. Big fish like cod eat adult sprats. But sprats also eat cod eggs and larvae.

Many people eat sprats. They are high in healthy fats. These fats can help your heart and brain.
