Making kimchi is a way to bring people together. This tradition is called gimjang. In the past, whole villages helped make it. They stored the food in large clay pots called onggi. They even buried the pots in the ground. This kept the food cool during the summer. It also stopped the food from freezing in winter. Today, many families use special kimchi refrigerators. Making kimchi is a proud part of Korean culture.
