Cleopatra, a famous queen of Egypt, ate pickles for her health. Roman soldiers also ate them to stay strong for battle.

In many lands, pickles are a special part of a meal. In Korea, kimchi is a famous side dish made of cabbage. In Japan, people make tsukemono, which means pickled foods. Some pickles are even made in the sun. In parts of India, people put jars in the sun to help them mature. This heat kills bad microbes. These steps help make the delicious treats we enjoy today.
