In Iran and parts of India, people call them parah. Some also call them siparah. This word means "thirty parts."

In the past, many Muslims could not buy their own books. They went to mosques to read them. These books were often split into thirty juz. This helped people read the whole book in one month. Many people do this during the month of Ramadan. They might read one juz each night during prayer.

Each juz is split into two groups. These groups are called hizb. There are 60 hizbs in the Quran. Each hizb has four smaller parts. We call these parts maqra. There are 240 maqras in total. People use these small parts to help them memorize the text.

One part is very common. It is the 30th juz, called Juz' Amma. It contains many short chapters. These are chapters 78 through 114. Most of these are the shortest chapters in the Quran.
