The Quran is the holy book for Muslims. To make it easier to read, it is divided into thirty parts. These parts are called juz.

In places like Iran, people use a different name. They call these parts parah. In the Indian subcontinent, they might also use the name siparah. This word literally means "thirty parts." These divisions help people manage the large amount of text in the book.

There is a special way these parts work together. Each juz is split into two smaller groups called hizb. Because there are thirty juz, there are 60 hizbs in total. Each hizb is then divided into four quarters. These quarters are called maqra, which means "reading." This means there are 240 maqras in the entire Quran.

These small sections help people focus on a little bit at a time.

In the past, these divisions were very helpful for everyone. Many Muslims could not afford to buy their own copy of the Quran. Instead, they went to mosques to use the books kept there. These mosque copies were often divided into thirty juz. This allowed people to read the whole book in just one month.

It was a practical way to share the text with the community.

Today, many people still use these parts for special times. During the Islamic month of Ramadan, people often recite the whole Quran. They might do this during Tarawih prayers. A common way is to recite one juz every single night.

This helps them finish the entire book by the end of the month. It turns a huge task into a steady daily habit.

Some parts of the Quran are more famous than others. The 30th juz is very well known. It is called Juz' Amma.

This part contains chapters 78 through 114. Most of these are the shortest chapters in the book. Because they are short, they are very common for people to memorize. The maqra divisions are also used to help people practice their memorization. This way, they can check their progress section by section.
