John Creasey was an incredibly busy author from England. He is famous for writing many different kinds of stories. Most people know him for his crime and detective novels. However, he also wrote science fiction, romance, and westerns. He was a very fast writer. He once joked that he could write a whole book if he were shut in a glass box.

To write so many books, Creasey used many different names. These names are called pseudonyms. He used twenty-eight different pseudonyms during his career. He wrote more than six hundred novels in total. He also created many characters that people loved. One was The Toff, who was a rich man and a detective. Another was Commander George Gideon of Scotland Yard.

Creasey's stories were so popular that they moved to the screen. Some of his characters became famous TV shows. For example, The Baron became a TV series in the 1960s. Commander George Gideon was the star of the show Gideon's Way. His character also appeared in a 1958 movie called Gideon's Day. Even his Roger West stories were turned into radio plays.

In 1969, he received the Grand Master Award from the Mystery Writers of America. He was also the president of that group in 1966. He was one of only three non-American writers to hold that job.

Outside of writing, Creasey was very active in his community. He founded the Crime Writers' Association in the UK in 1953. He also cared deeply about politics. He joined the Liberal party and later ran for office as an independent. He even started a group called the All Party Alliance.
