He is often called a polymath. This means he is an expert in many different areas. He has studied biology, geography, and history. He also knows a lot about birds and plants. His work helps us understand how the world works. He wants to show how different parts of nature connect to human history. This makes his books very interesting to many readers.

Diamond uses a special way to study history. He calls these "natural experiments." In a science lab, people can control everything in a test tube. But you cannot do that with human societies. Instead, he looks at how different groups of people lived in the past. He compares groups that were similar to see how they changed. He looks at how the land and the weather changed their lives. This helps him find patterns in how humans live and grow.

Not everyone agrees with everything Diamond says. Some experts in anthropology think his ideas are "shallow." They believe he talks too much about geography and climate. They think he does not give enough credit to other important factors. Even with these disagreements, his work is very famous. He has even received the National Medal of Science. His books have been translated into many different languages. People all over the world still study his big ideas today.
