He is best known for helping start the Zhou dynasty. This happened after the Shang dynasty ended. Jiang Ziya was a master of military strategy. He was also a very smart political thinker. People remember him as a man who knew how to lead others well. He even became a war god in later years.

His life story begins with a very unusual way of living. Legend says he was born to a poor family. Some stories say he was left in the wild to die. However, animals cared for him until a noble woman found him.

This woman raised him and gave him the name Ziya. As he grew up, he became very skilled in mystical arts. By the age of eighteen, he began searching for a teacher. He eventually spent many years living in exile. During this time, he famously fished in the Wei River. He used a hook without a barb to catch fish. He believed the fish would come to him when they were ready.

One day, King Wen of Zhou met the old fisherman. The king was looking for a wise person to help his land. His ancestors had even predicted that a sage would arrive.

King Wen spoke with Jiang Ziya about military plans and government. He realized this man was the teacher he had been seeking. The king brought him to the court and made him a prime minister. He gave him the title Taigong Wang. This title meant he was the one the great ancestors had hoped for. Jiang Ziya then helped King Wen's son, King Wu, prepare for battle.

Jiang Ziya helped lead the Zhou troops during the Battle of Muye. This battle took place about 35 kilometers from the Shang capital, Yin.

Jiang Ziya was a brave leader in this fight. He charged at the front of the troops and beat the drums. His clever moves helped the Zhou army surround the capital. After the victory, the Zhou dynasty began its rule over China. Jiang Ziya was then given the land of Qi to rule. He set up his home at Yingqiu. Under his leadership, the state of Qi grew very strong.

Jiang Ziya's ideas about ruling are still very important today. He believed a country is only strong if its people are happy. He taught that leaders should love their people. This meant keeping taxes low and reducing hard labor.

He wrote a book called the Six Secret Teachings. This book is one of the Seven Military Classics of China. He is also a hero in famous stories like the Investiture of the Gods. In these stories, he can use magic to protect the people. His name lives on in Chinese history and literature.
