The city is a very busy place for moving goods and people. Its location near the Yangtze River and major rail lines makes it a hub for transport. There are two big bridges that cross the river here. These are the Huangshi Yangtze River Bridge and the Edong Yangtze River Bridge. Many passenger trains stop at the Huangshi and Yangxin stations. A special commuter rail line also connects the area to Wuhan.

History in this region goes back a very long time. In 845 BC, a leader named Huang Meng moved a capital to Huangchuan. Later, the State of Huang was destroyed by the State of Chu in 648 BC. Many people had to move to new areas during the Han dynasty. In 1944, during a war, planes even bombed a dock and a factory in the city. Today, the city is a modern place with many different districts. It includes areas like Huangshigang, Xisaishan, Xialu, and Tieshan.

Many people live in Huangshi, with over 2.4 million inhabitants recorded in 2020. Most of these people belong to the Han ethnic group. The city is very rich in natural resources. People call it "The Southern Cornucopia" because it has so many metals. You can find gold, silver, copper, and even zinc in the ground. There are also more than 3,000 types of plants growing in the area. Some of these plants are used for food or to make medicine.

Visitors can find many beautiful spots to explore in Huangshi. There are famous sites like the Buddhist Temple on Dongfang Mountain. You can also visit Cihu Lake or the scenic Xisaishan area. One very interesting place is the Huangshi National Mining Park. This park used to be an iron mine that worked from the 1890s until 2000. Now, people go there to look at old mining equipment. It is a way to see how the city worked in the past.
