Nanchong is a large city in the northeast of Sichuan province, China. It is the second most populated city in the whole province. Most of the land here is made of rolling hills. A big river called the Jialing River flows through the area from north to south. This river is a part of the famous Yangtze River. There are also about 30 other rivers in the region. These rivers flow into large areas called drainage basins.

The weather in Nanchong is often very warm and wet. This is called a humid subtropical climate. The summers are long, hot, and feel very damp. Most of the rain falls between May and September. Winters are short and stay quite mild. It does not freeze very often in this part of the world. The sun shines for about 1,135 hours every year.

Nanchong has a history that goes back a very long time. Long ago, the area belonged to a land called the state of Ba. In 314 BC, the Qin people conquered this territory. Many years later, a place called Anhan was set up. The name Anhan means "to establish or stabilize Han." The city changed its name several times over the centuries. It eventually became known as Nanchong in the year 742 AD.

Many people live and work in this busy region. In 2020, more than 5.6 million people lived in Nanchong. Most people belong to the Han ethnic group. However, there are also 48 other ethnic groups living there. Many people live in rural areas and work on farms. They grow food like rice, oranges, and silk worms. Nanchong also has factories that make cars and building materials.

Traveling through Nanchong is quite easy because it is a transport hub. There are many expressways that link the city to Chengdu. You can also take a train to reach big cities like Beijing or Shanghai. The new Nanchong Gaoping Airport helps people fly to many places. The city is also known for its tasty food.
