Breaking has four main parts. First is toprock. This is dancing while standing up. Next is downrock. This uses hands and feet on the floor. Then there are freezes. These are stylish poses on your hands. Finally, there are power moves. These are hard acrobatic moves.

In the 1970s, DJ Kool Herc helped the dance grow. He used two records to make the music loop. This part of the song is called a break. Dancers who dance to the break are called b-boys and b-girls.

Dancers often compete in battles. They might dance in a circle called a cypher. They might also dance in an Apache Line. In an Apache Line, two teams face each other. People dance for fun or as a job. It is a way to stay active and share skill.
