Its name comes from the Persian words for "wind palace." This building is a very special part of the city. It is located on the edge of the City Palace. It also connects to the Zenana, which are the women's chambers. People love to visit this site to see its unique look. It stands as a grand piece of history in the Pink City.

The palace has a very clever way of working. It has five floors that rise up in a pyramid shape. The front looks like a honeycomb with many small openings. These are 953 tiny windows called jharokhas. They have pretty stone carvings and latticework on them. These windows let cool air flow through the rooms. This helps keep the inside pleasant during hot summers. Fountains in the center of the chambers help with the cooling too.

A long time ago, a leader named Maharaja Sawai Pratap Singh built it. He finished the palace in the year 1799. He was the grandson of the man who founded Jaipur. The Maharaja was inspired by a building called Khetri Mahal. An architect named Lal Chand Ustad designed the structure. The palace was a favorite place for the Maharaja. It was known as a masterpiece of elegance and style.

The building uses many different types of art and stone. It is made from red and pink sandstone. This matches the colors of the rest of Jaipur. The design mixes two different styles together. It uses Rajput style with domes and lotus patterns. It also uses Islamic style with arches and stone inlay. The top three floors are quite narrow. They are only as wide as a single room. You must use ramps to reach the top two floors.

Many people see the front of the palace from the street. They might think it is the front of the whole building. However, that decorated side is actually the back. The inside has rooms with colorful marbles and gold. The entry comes from the City Palace side through a large door. It opens into a big courtyard with an archaeological museum. In 2006, workers spent 4.568 million rupees to fix it up. Today, it remains a famous spot for travelers to explore.
