This group is a political and economic union. It also acts as a military alliance. The member states are Bahrain, Kuwait, Oman, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, and the United Arab Emirates. They share many goals to help their region grow. Their main headquarters is in Riyadh, which is the capital of Saudi Arabia. This group helps these neighbors stay connected and strong.

To make decisions, the group uses special councils. The Supreme Council is the highest group. It is made up of the leaders from each country. They set the big goals and the vision for the GCC. Every member state gets one vote. For small matters, they use a majority vote. For very important issues, every country must agree.

There is also a Ministerial Council. This group includes the Foreign Ministers from each country. They meet every three months to plan projects and make recommendations.

The GCC started many years ago. Sheikh Jaber Al-Ahmad Al-Sabah of Kuwait helped start the idea. Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan of the UAE also helped. They wanted the Arab states in the Gulf to work closer together. The group was officially formed on May 25, 1981.

The founding document was signed in Abu Dhabi. The six countries that signed that first document are still the only members today. In 1984, they also formed a military group called the Peninsula Shield Force.

These countries have very fast-growing economies. This is mostly because they have a lot of oil and natural gas.

They use this money to build new things and invest for the future. The UAE has investment arms that hold over $900 billion in assets. The group also works on trade. They created a customs union in 2003. They also started a common market in 2008. This helps citizens work and live more easily across the different states. They even discussed using one single currency called the Khaleeji.

Working together helps the countries build big things. They have a power grid that connects their electricity.

They are also working on a huge railway system. This rail network will link all six member states together. It is expected to cost over $200 billion to develop. This project will help move goods and people more quickly. It will also help the region stay connected through transport. This makes the six countries act more like one large, connected community.
