Guccio was born in Florence, Tuscany, on March 26, 1881. His parents were Gabriello Gucci and Elena Santini. His father was a leather craftsman from San Miniato. Guccio's work helped change how people think about fine accessories. Today, his name is known all over the world.

Guccio learned his craft by watching the world around him. As a teenager in 1899, he worked at the Savoy Hotel in London. He saw elegant guests and nice luggage from companies like H. J. Cave & Sons. This inspired him to make high-quality goods. He first worked for an Italian brand called Franzi to learn more. Later, he returned to Florence to start his own business. He began by making saddles and leather bags for horsemen.

Guccio started his own shop in 1921. This shop was located on Via della Vigna Nuova in Florence. It began as a small family-owned leather shop. During the 1930s, Italy faced leather shortages due to League of Nations sanctions. Guccio had to find new ways to work. He developed a special woven hemp fabric from Naples to use instead. In 1938, he opened a second location in Rome. This happened because his son Aldo suggested it.

Guccio's family helped the business grow through many years. His eldest son, Aldo, joined the company in 1925. Aldo was very innovative with new products. He helped create the company's first bag made from pigskin. In 1947, the company faced a shortage of materials again. To solve this, they created the Bamboo Bag. This bag used lightweight bamboo for the handles. It became one of the most famous designs for the brand.

The brand soon expanded to many international locations. You can still learn about this history at the Gucci Museum in Florence. This museum is also called the Gucci Garden.
