He was born on March 17, 1834, in Schorndorf. His parents were a baker and a woman named Frederika. As a young boy, he studied very hard in school. By age 13, he finished six years of primary studies. He became very interested in how machines work. He even trained as a gunsmith before becoming an engineer. This early training helped him understand metal and tools.

Daimler wanted to make small, fast engines. He worked with his partner, Wilhelm Maybach.

They wanted engines for all kinds of transport. In 1883, they made a special engine. They called it "Daimler's Dream." This engine used liquid petroleum to run. It was much smaller and lighter than other engines. It could spin at 750 rpm, or revolutions per minute. This meant the engine spun 750 times every minute. This speed made it useful for moving things.

In 1885, they built a new engine design. It had a vertical cylinder. Daimler called it the "grandfather clock" engine.

He chose this name because it looked like a large pendulum clock. They added a carburetor to mix fuel with air. This new engine could produce 1 hp, or one horsepower. It could run at a speed of 600 rpm. This was much faster than older engines. Most engines back then only ran at 120 to 180 rpm.

Daimler used these engines to create new vehicles. In 1885, they built the Reitwagen.

This was a two-wheeler with two small stabilizer wheels. It was the first internal combustion motorcycle. Maybach rode it for three kilometers along a river. They also put engines in boats.

Many things in our lives come from Daimler's work. He helped start the age of the motor vehicle. In 1890, they formed a company called Daimler Motoren Gesellschaft. They sold their first automobile in 1892. People often call him "the father of the motorcycle." His ideas changed how people travel from place to place. Even today, many cars use ideas he helped create. His work with Maybach changed the world forever.
