Gongsun Long was a thinker from ancient China. He lived a long time ago. He was part of a group called the Logicians. This group studied how words and ideas work.

Gongsun Long ran a school. Many rulers liked his work. During his time, many people fought wars. He wanted to use peace to solve fights. He wrote many essays to share his ideas. We only have six of them today.

He is famous for a puzzle. He said, "White horses are not horses." This sounds strange. One way to see this is through groups. A "horse" is a big group. It includes brown or black horses. A "white horse" is a smaller group. It only includes white ones. So, a white horse is not the same as the whole group of horses.

He also wrote about names and reality. He believed names should match real things. He thought this helped keep order in society. He wrote about many topics. These included hardness and color. He also wrote about how things change.
