Fourth-wave feminism is a modern movement for women's rights. It began around the year 2012. This wave is very different because it uses the internet. Digital tools help activists connect with people all over the world. These tools make feminist issues more visible to everyone. People can act on important news in real time.

The movement focuses on many different goals. It seeks to end sexual harassment and sexual violence. Activists also fight against sexism in the workplace. They want to stop the objectification of women. This means they fight against treating women like objects. The movement also wants equal pay for all people. It challenges old rules about how men and women should act. These traditional roles can be oppressive to many people.

This wave uses a concept called intersectionality. This means the movement includes many different groups. It focuses on women of color and the LGBTQ+ community. It also looks at how race and class connect to gender. This helps the movement become more inclusive for everyone. Many women learn about these ideas through the internet. They build a virtual academy to share knowledge. They often say that personal experiences are also political issues.

History shows that feminism has moved in waves. The first wave focused on the right to vote. The second wave began in the 1960s to fight for social rights. The third wave started around 1975 and focused on inclusivity. Some people say the fourth wave is a reaction to post-feminism. Post-feminism is the idea that equality has already been reached. In Spain, the movement grew from the tragic death of Ana Orantes in 1997. Her story brought attention to domestic violence across the country.

Social media has changed how people protest today. In 2013, Senator Wendy Davis used a long speech to fight a bill. People used the hashtag #StandWithWendy to show support. In 2014, Emma Watson gave a famous speech at the UN. This helped start the HeForShe campaign. The #MeToo movement also became very famous online. Many women use hashtags to share their stories and find support.
