They use over 250 planes to fly to 150 cities. These cities are spread across 80 countries and six continents. The airline mostly uses wide-body aircraft, which are planes that are very wide inside. Emirates is the world's largest operator of the Airbus A380.

They also have 133 Boeing 777 aircraft in service. This makes them the largest operator of that plane too. They even have a special group called Emirates SkyCargo to move goods.

The airline has a very interesting history that began in the 1980s.

In the mid-1980s, Gulf Air began to cut back its services to Dubai. Because of this, Emirates was founded on March 15, 1985. Ahmed bin Saeed Al Maktoum founded the airline. It started with only $10 million in start-up capital.

The first two planes came from Pakistan International Airlines. That airline also helped by training the first cabin crew at Karachi Airport.

Emirates has grown very fast since its first flight in 1985.

Its first flight went from Dubai to Karachi, Pakistan. Later, it flew to Mumbai, India, using a Boeing 737-300. By 1986, the airline added cities like Cairo and Queen Alia International Airport. The airline grew by about 30% every year during its early years. In 2008, the airline moved all its work to Terminal 3. In 2023, the airline ordered 90 new Boeing jets for $50 billion.

You can see the Emirates brand in many places around the world.

They sponsor many things, like the Emirates Air Line cable cars in London. They also sponsor the Spinnaker Tower in Portsmouth.
